On the Sunday and Monday following Christmas, many Washingtonians woke up to between 4 and 12 inches of fresh snow, which was very unexpected! For many of us, it meant Netflix and hot cocoa. But for cannabis retailers, it meant depressed sales since many were holed up at home with several local streets closed. While December 2021 generally under-performed compared to December 2020, after the snow we saw median like-store sales at -26% and -21% below what we saw last year, compared to the usual -7% for an average December day. It may seem obvious, but this is one of the reasons why forecasting sales can be so difficult. We even have to worry about weather patterns!
