Overview
Concentrates are the connoisseur’s corner of the market, and the most male-skewed category in cannabis: men drive 73% of dollars, above Flower at 68% and the polar opposite of Topicals, the only category women lead. They also skew young, with Gen Z and Millennials combining for more than three-quarters of spend while Baby Boomers barely register at 7%. Ranked fifth in both the US and Canada, the category rewards potency and craft over convenience. No single brand runs away with it the way Wyld owns Edibles or Jeeter owns Pre-Rolls; even the leader, 710 Labs, holds only low-single-digit share.
Concentrates average about $18 per item across Headset’s US markets over the past year. Most are sold by the half gram or full gram, so that figure doubles as a rough per-gram price, and the range is wide: budget distillate and wax sit at the low end, while solventless hash rosin and live resin reach some of the highest per-gram prices in cannabis. High potency means a little goes a long way, the category’s core appeal for the experienced buyer.
Unlike most formats, concentrate prices held essentially flat to slightly up year over year, about 1%. That points to demand for premium, solventless product offsetting the price compression hitting commodity distillate and wax.
How much does a gram of concentrate cost?
Concentrate products average about $18 each across Headset’s US markets, but the range is wide: budget distillate and wax run low, while premium live resin and solventless hash rosin sit well above the average.
What is the difference between live resin and rosin?
Live resin is extracted from fresh-frozen flower using solvents, while rosin, including hash rosin, is made with only heat and pressure and no solvents. Solventless rosin usually commands the higher price.
Why do concentrates cost more than flower?
Concentrates are processed and far more potent by weight than Flower, so you pay more per gram but use less per session.
