Introducing Ask Retailer and Ask Insights: Ask a Question, Get the Answer
You know the question you need answered. Getting to the answer usually means setting filters, building a report, and waiting on whoever knows the tool best. Ask Retailer and Ask Insights skip all of that. They are AI agents built directly into the Headset platform, so you type a plain-language question and get the answer.
For Retailers
Ask Retailer answers questions about your own store, drawn from your POS data. See what's moving and what your promotions are really doing, without building a report.
- What's selling this week? Your top products, categories, and brands at a glance.
- Which discounts are helping, and which are just giving it away? A straight answer on which promotions drive revenue and which only reduce profit.
- How did this month compare to last month? Spot shifts in sales by category before they show up in your margin.
For Brands
Ask Insights answers questions about the market, drawn from the largest dataset in cannabis, across sales, brand rankings, category trends, pricing, discounts, demographics, brand loyalty, and basket behavior in the markets you subscribe to. Check rankings, demographics, loyalty, and cross-shop before your next buyer meeting.
- What were the top selling flower brands in Washington last quarter?
- Which vapor pen brands over-index with Gen Z in New York?
- What share of a brand's customers stay loyal, cross-shop, or switch away? You can also see which other brands your customers buy.
For Investors and Analysts
Ask Insights gives you the same market view. Size categories and track trends in minutes, not days.
- What is the month-over-month sales growth for Michigan?
- How has the average price of flower trended in Colorado over the past 12 months?
- What is the year-over-year sales growth for Colorado by category?
How to Ask a Great Question
Plain language works, but specific questions get specific answers. These four habits make the biggest difference.
1. Name the market.
Ask Insights answers from the markets in your subscription. If you subscribe to more than one, name the state or province so the answer covers the market you mean.
- Instead of: "Top flower brands" Try: "Top flower brands in Colorado"
- Instead of: "How is my brand performing?" Try: "How is my brand performing in Washington and Oregon?"
- Instead of: "Edible market trends" Try: "Edible market trends in Michigan over the last 6 months"
2. Set the time period.
If you don't say, Ask Insights uses the trailing 12 complete months. Ask for a different range when it matters:
- "...in Q4 2025"
- "...over the last 6 months"
- "...in January 2026"
- "...comparing 2026 vs. 2025"
- "...over the trailing 60 days"
3. Include the category.
For brand and demographic questions, the category makes the answer more relevant.
- Instead of: "Which brands do Gen Z prefer?" Try: "Which edible brands do Gen Z prefer in Colorado?"
- Instead of: "A brand's demographic breakdown" Try: "Demographic breakdown for a brand's vapor pens in California"
4. Say what you're comparing.
Be explicit about both sides.
- "Compare flower sales in Colorado for 2026 vs. 2025."
- "How do Millennial vs. Baby Boomer preferences differ for edibles in Illinois?"
Questions that need a little more
- "What are the top brands?" Missing a market and category. Try: "What are the top edible brands in California?"
- "How is the market doing?" Too vague. Try: "What is the year-over-year sales growth for Colorado by category?"
- "Who buys edibles?" Missing a market. Try: "What age groups and genders buy the most edibles in Michigan?"
- "Who's stealing my customers?" Missing a brand, market, and category, and it assumes a cause. Try: "What other brands do a brand's California vapor pen customers also buy?"
Two more things to know
- Ask what customers did, not why. Loyalty and cross-shop answers show what shoppers bought, not why they switched.
- Top lists: "Top" questions return 15 items unless you ask for 5 or 25.
