The number of distinct SKUs sold in the median store in the most recently completed month. Median was used instead of an average to remove the effects of outlier stores.
The month over month growth in sales for the median sample store (for example, January 2022 vs. December 2021). “Like stores” are filtered to exclude any newly opened stores or recently disconnected stores.
For the fourth most popular cannabis category in Canada, Ontario captured over double the amount of Edible sales in January 2023 compared with the second and third highest markets, Alberta and British Columbia respectively. However, ON (6.4%) and AB (6.5%) have the lowest overall market share for Canadian tracked markets while BC (7.5%) and SK (7%) have the highest representation of the category in total sales.
Edibles are the fourth largest category (12.9%) in Emerging US markets, a distant third to Vapor Pens (23.2%) and slightly ahead of Pre-Rolls (11%). Though MI is the largest Edibles market, they are the middle of the pack for popularity while other large markets such as FL (14.7%), IL (13.1%), and MA (12.5%) are the leaders of this cohort.
As expected, California dominates total Edible category sales for more mature US markets. However, the Colorado market dominates category popularity, capturing 17.3% of total sales in January. Edibles are the fourth largest category in legacy US markets, representing 12.7% of sales behind Pre-Rolls (13.8%). This may offer some insight into how category mix is going to change in Emerging US markets as Pre-Rolls continue to gain popularity.
